(14) Site of the Battle of Yamazaki, Tenno-zan (Mt. Tenno), Osaka/Kyoto
(C)T.Okamoto
Situated between Osaka and Kyoto, Oyamazaki is a strategically important area both in military terms and for transport. In the transition phase from the Warring States Period to national unification in the 16th century, a decisive battle was fought on Tenno-zan (Mt. Tenno) in the Oyamazaki area. With an altitude of 270 m, the mountain provides a good hiking course. Ceramic boards with Japanese pictures depicting the battle and explanatory texts are to be found at many spots along the course. The nearest station is Oyamazaki Station on the JR Tokaido line or Hankyu Kyoto line.
