In 710, a city stretching 5.9 km east to west and 4.8 km north to south was constructed on this site as the capital of centralized government. Today, the site has been converted into a historic park in which trees have been planted in the post holes of the palace and Chodoin buildings. The Suzakumon Gate which was rebuilt in the spring of 1998 is open to public inspection. The nearest station is Saidaiji Station on the Kintetsu Railway Nara line.
