This trail is said to be Japan’s oldest recorded road. Along the road are to be found Omiwa Shrine dedicated to the god of alcoholic beverages, Sumo Shrine, the birthplace of sumo wrestling, and Isonokami Shrine where the imperial court arsenal existed. Many of the emperors and powerful clans which governed the area in ancient times have their tombs in the vicinity. Stretching for a distance of approx. 16 km, this trail is very famous as an attractive hiking route flanked by numerous places of historic interest. The nearest station is Sakurai Station on the Kintetsu Railway Osaka line or JR Sakurai line.
