Uji is a scenic city in which many noble families built their villas in the 11th century when aristocratic culture flourished. The Byodoin temple structure with wing corridors on both sides brings to mind a phoenix spreading its wings. An image of the temple is on the Y10 coin. To get there, it is convenient to walk from Uji Station on the JR or Keihan Railway Uji line.
