(12) Ryoanji Temple, Kinukake-no-michi, Kyoto

At the foot of Mt. Kinugasa in northern Kyoto stand several temples representative of the Japanese culture which flourished around the 14th century, including Kinkakuji Temple. This area is called “Kinukake-no-michi.” Among the other temples with splendid gardens in the area are Ryoanji Temple famous for its rock garden and Ninnaji Temple well known for Omuro cherry blossoms. Kinkakuji Temple can be accessed by city bus (alight at Kinkakuji-michi).
